Maybe flip that: In children who have shunts for hydrocephalus, concerns are shunt blockage or infection. When they have acute minor illnesses with fever, listlessness, decreased appetite & especially vomiting & irritability, the safe thing to do is to see the pediatrician, neurologist or neurosurgeon to check the shunt.
