Had 20 week ultrasound. midwife reported umbilical cord attached to the membrane of placenta. is this serious?

Please explain ??: The umbilical cord arises from the placenta and must be attached for that to happen. Perhaps there is another way to describe your question. If not please call the OB and ask them to explain what they really meant.

Does she mea: Vasa previa, ask her to tell u the exact medcial term, if u have a vasa previa that is very high risk an u need to be followed by an OB and not a midwife ! and hoepfully a perinatologist did your 20 week us cause that is the most important one to check for anomilies and everything else.

Velamentous cord ins: Because the cord arises out of the membranes instead of the center of the placental disk, the major vessels have to travel across the membranes to reach the placenta. When these bridging vessels overly the cervix, membrane rupture can cause catastrophic fetal blood loss if one of those vessels tears with the membranes. Color flow doppler can identify vessels that are at risk.
