48 hours: Literature regarding the timing of ambulation for patients with dvt(blood clots) is limited in the past, patients with active blood clots were placed on bed rest for periods up to 7 to 10 days due to the fear of pe(pulmonary embolism) among patients who remain active. There is an increased risk of pulmonary embolism in patients who are aggressively mobilized less than 48 to 72 hours after diagnosi.

In general, outpatient treatment of dvt(deep vein thrombosis) consists of long acting Heparin analogues for several days and warfarin. They should overlap until inr is therapeutic. 7-10 days of rest should be adequate. The idea here is that endothelialization of the clot occurs and embolization is less likely.
