Possible infection: An occasional dry cough is normal. Even an occasional bit of mucus isn't of too much concern. But if you develop productive cough especially associated with chest pain, perhaps even shortness of breath, it's time to go see your family doc regardless of fever or not because you might have pneumonia or other lung infection. Of course, other reasons for cough & chest pain so don't delay . .
