Likely: Having a family history of autoimmune disease make it more likely that a person will develop one or more autoimmune processes. It is by no means a certainty. But the odds increase. As such, unexplained symptoms such as fevers, weight loss, rashes, joint pains, swelling, liver or kidney symptoms should be evaluated by your physician with possible referral to a rheumatologist or immunologist.

Maybe: The tendency for autoimmunity does seem to run in some families, but not in others.
