Without knowing: More detail about your history, it's hard to say. It could be many things, but if it really came out of nowhere and there is no swelling, redness or discoloration, the source of the pain may not be under the nail, but rather a nerve further up that's being impinged, causing your brain to "think" the pain is coming from the nail. Try come ice and take a tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin or see your md.
