Sppech therapy: Does your child have any other problems? Has he had a hearing test.? Does he get lots of ear infections.? Is he autistic ? If he has not seen a pediatrician then that is the place to start. He can check his ears, his hearing and refer him for speech therapy.

Team approach: You will need to approach this from three directions. Your physician should check hearing and other behavioral milestones. Your dentist should check for "tongue tie" or other possible physical problems and a speech pathologist should evaluate and coordinate treatment. Best of luck!

An evaluation and : therapy by a Speech/Language Pathologist is what will help. If his pediatrician can refer him for an Occupational Therapy evaluation, as well, that will help. An OT can check both oral motor and fine motor development. Fine motor is buttoning, snapping, zipping, tying shoes, etc. . Graphomotor is using a pencil for writing. Oral motor and fine motor delays often co-exist.
