Weight for baby: Each baby's weight should be compared to his or her height and not just by weight for age alone. Also you need to compare the growth chart pattern and percentiles. Talk to your md.

Weight in infancy: It is wrong to guess if a certian weight for an 8 month old is okay. It needs to be taken in conjunction wiht the length of hte baby and the previous weight on the growth chart. Talk to your pediatrician and ask to see the growth chart.
