I have fibrocystic breast disease and a microscopic lump was seen on diagnostic mammo. could it be cancerous? it is in the left breast.

Possibly.: This could be more of your fibrocystic disease, which goes along with your cycle, or it could be a benign lump, like a fibroadenoma, which can be large, but is benign, and can almost always be excised. However, there is always a chance it could be malignant. This is why x-ray guided biopsy is often done. Calcifications, if present, point to malignancy. See your dr. For more info. And follow-up.

Needs more evaluatio: Most likely will be non-cancerous but need an ultrasound and probably a core- biopsy (large needle). Hard to redact without seeing the films.

Biopsy?: You should discuss with your primary care physician. If the lump has suspicious characteristics on the imaging, a biopsy should be performed.

May need: Further evaluation. Additional magnification mammogram views & ultrasound may be indicated. Ask your doctor who ordered the mammogram if radiology recommended further testing. Sometimes needle biopsy is indicated too.
