A member asked:

Can you take too many medications for depression, when is enough?

Not really: There is never any absolute limits to the number of medications someone can take, but i find anytime someone is on many medications, it is a good exercise to look at all the meds with fresh eyes and see if they are all appropriate or if some have been accidentally added on by different providers who might not be aware of all the medications. The real limit is when side effects become intolerable.

Over medication: Yes you can take too much. A careful psychiatrist will help guide you to a sensible combination. More isn't always better. Sometimes you need to overlap meds to prevent regression when changing meds. The goal is remission of symptoms, then gradual taper of any non essential meds can occur. Meds have different modes of action that can compliment each other.
