A member asked:

What types of medications do you take for depression?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Several options: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) are most commonly prescribed. There are several other med categories - most of them involve augmenting the signals of serotonin or norepinephrine or dopamine. There are also several types of psychotherapy with demonstrated effectiveness in treating depression. Many of the psychotherapies are as effective as medications for some types of depression.
