Rotator Cuff Repair: It sounds like you are describing a rotator cuff tear, where the tendon has torn off of the bone, causing pain and weakness. We usually perform a shoulder scope (arthroscopy) through 2-3 small incisions, and repair the tendon back to the bone. It takes 45min to 1.5 hours and takes about 3 months to heal.

Help you heal sooner: Ice and otc ibuprofen, etc can help. If not, get an orthopedic evaluation, as you may need a specific physical therapy script, with or without an anti-inflammatory drug prescription. An ortho. Can inject the shoulder with a steroid or numbing agent if deemed necessary. If you have a rotator cuff tear and do not respond to the above, you may need corrective surgery for the tear to properly heal.
