CT procedure: In this test, the radiologist performs a spinal tap and injects a small amount of contrast into the sac surrounding your spinal nerve roots (in your lower back). The table is then tilted so that the contrast flows into your head. Pictures are then taken by a ct scanner to image the brainstem, cerebellum and cranial nerves, and also commonly to determine if there is spinal fluid leakage.

Cisternogram: Ct cisternography is a procedure used to identify subtle leaks of spinal fluid along the skull base. Images are obtained in various orientations and often with the patient in various positions before and after a liquid which shows up with ct (contrast) is instilled into the spinal fluid. Since ct images show bone detail well the test works well to identify leaks in the skull base region.
