Lumbar Puncture: Approximately 3–10 ml of an iodinated nonionic low-osmolar contrast agent is administered by means of lumbar puncture (spinal tap). The patient is then tilted to get the contrast to flow around the brain. A post contrast ct is obtained to evaluate the area. If a CSF leak had been diagnosed pre-contrast images would have been obtained first.
