Milk production: Galactorrhea is the expression of milk from the breast that is not associated with lactation. Some medications can cause galactorrhea. An elevation of prolactin-a hormone produced by the brain- can also cause it. Because it can be associated with a brain tumor, galactorrhea should be evaluated by a doctor.

Milky breasts: Galactorrhea is a condition where milk flows from the breast at a time not associated with pregnancy, childbirth, or nursing. It can occur at any age and in both sexes. While it might be due to innocent benign processes and even medications/drugs, it needs evaluation to rule out potentially serious causes.
