There is difference : The lipoma originates from fatty tissue. A neurofibroma represents a potential genetic disease (neurofibromatosis) and simply tells the treating doctor to look for any of the other conditions that can be associated with von recklinhausen's disease (neurofibromatosis). I would recommend a visit with an endocrine doctor if this is the condition that you are being followed for.

Fat vs Nerve: Both lesions are benign. Lipomas are benign tumors that come from fat neurofibromas are benign tumors that come from a nerve.
