A member asked:

How do you know if you have a heart condition or if its asthma when you have chest pain?

See a doctor: Asthma usually doesn't cause chest pain, but there are several conditions besides heart problems that can cause chest pain or pressure. If you are having severe chest pain, you should see a doctor immediately.

Doctor eval...: Clinically, the chest pain description can suggest the diagnosis but sometimes, testing is needed to determine whether or not it is due to a cardiac etiology. An ekg and/or stress test, etc. Can determine if the chest pain is due to a cardiac cause. Once this is ruled out, other etiologies, like asthma, musculoskeletal pain, etc. Can then be diagnosed. See a doctor if you have chest pain.
