My husband has an inguinal hernia and this morning it is more swollen and very bruised. what can this be, he fell down about three weeks ago

Needs surgery: The hernia isn't hurt from three weeks ago. The hernia is hurting because it is sore from the tissue protruding through its natural barriers. He may have hit it putting on his pants or something. Get a support belt but needs to see a surgeon if e is sufferring.

Bruising = Trauma: Hernias require emergent attention when intestine is stuck w/in the hernia sac. If your husband's hernia cannot be 'reduced', either spontaneously when laying down or by pushing on the hernia, he must be seen asap. If he is bloated and/or vomiting, he needs to go to the er. Bruising, however, is not typically seen with hernias and implies recent trauma.
