Reversibility: Diagnosing asthma in an 8 month old can be tricky. If the child is wheezing or coughing and the symptom reverses or goes away with the use of a short acting bronchodilator such as albuteral, i would be suspicious that the child has asthma. There is a big differential diagnosis in that age group so a chest xray is often warranted and helpful. Results may help determine the further workup.
