A member asked:

Are there any effects from long term use of ssris (>8yrs) like gait disturbance or painless fasciculations?

Why so long?: There is a general concept that side effects from medications accumulate over time. Hard to explain, but it took many decades before we were aware of the serious long term effects from dilantin. This may become true for ssris. Fda only worries about acute effects to allow approval. Be sure to report your concern and discuss with your doctor.

Unlikely: Fasciculations are seen in withdrawal syndrome from ssris but there are reports of fasciculations while on Paxil (paroxetine) and zoloft. Gait disturbance are highly unlikely with ssris, please get evaluated by your physician. Gait disturbance could be sign of many neural issues that need evaluation.
