See below: Foot drop usually refers to the inability to dorsiflex the foot (ie lift your ankle up) this can be associated with a variety of conditions. The most common are dorsiflexor injuries, peripheral nerve injuries, and stroke. Less common causes are neuropathies, drug toxicities, or diabetes.

Peroneal Weakness : When the peroneal muscles are weak, the foot does not lift up during the swing phase of the walk. Nerve injury to the peroneal nerve, or to the sciatic nerve, or nerve root injury in the spine can be the cause of a floppy foot drop. Stroke and brain disorders like multiple sclerosis. Cause a rigid or "spastic" foot drop. Bracing the leg can help the walk, and prevent falls.
