GBS: Group b streptococcus is a bacteria. Many men and women are carriers of gbs. Gbs is significant in pregnancy, because having gbs that is untreated can cause illness to a newborn. Gbs is not a significant infection in the mother, she is treated only to protect her unborn child.

GBS: Group b streptococcus (gbs) is a type of bacteria that causes illness in people of all ages. In newborns most commonly causes sepsis (infection of the blood), pneumonia (infection in the lungs), & sometimes meningitis (infection of the fluid and lining around the brain). The most common problems caused by gbs in adults are bloodstream, pneumonia, skin & soft-tissue, bones & joints infections(cdc).
