See Ortho Hip MD: There are different potential causes for your discomfort. At 56, you may be startingto get some degenerative changes (arthritis) in your hip. Alternatively, this may represent a tendinous, muscular or labral (the labrum is the fibrocartilage around the periphery of the hip socket) problem. See an orthopaedist who has a particular interest in the hip. Good luck!

See below: You really should get a good orthopedic exam it's positive that you can run as much as you have but if you can pinpoint the etiology for your pain you should be able to get rid of it.
