Mimics heart symptom: When the heart does not get enough oxygen discomfort can be felt in either arm because of nerves connecting to the heart that join up with nerves connecting to the arm in the spinal cord. . Anemia is one common cause of reduced oxygen supply to the heart which then leads to symptoms that mimic heart disease. If your heart is otherwise healthy, no special cause for alarm.

Possibly: Left arm pain is associated with angina -- lack of adequate oxygen supply to the heart muscle. While we commonly consider angina to be caused by arterial blockage, severe anemia can contribute greatly to this syndrome, due to lack of oxygen-carrying capacity in the setting of reduced numbers of red blood cells. See your doctor.
