Head to toe: A good head to toe exam that includes a digital rectal exam; although this should be postponed until after the blood is drawn for the psa. Drawing the blood after the dre may result in a falsely elevated psa and cause and unnecessary scare for prostate cancer.

Physical 50 yo M: The doctor will take a detailed history, family hx/allergies/social hx/surgeries/personal hx review systems Look in your eyes, ears, nose, and throat. Listen to heart and lungs/neck. Touching, or “palpating,” body (like your abdomen) to feel for abnormalities. Colon/lung/skin cancer screening. Blood tests with cholesterol profile, PSA, metabolic panel. Some exams can be more detailed based on hx.
