There : There are many dietary factors that can impact a lipid profile. Populations with high fish oil intake, such as eskimos, show low rates of heart disease. Soy products help lower cholesterol, and LDL particularly, among asians. Chinese cuisine also includes red yeast rice which has been shown to improve the cholesterol levels. A mediterranean diet rich in walnuts, almonds, and pistachios has shown benefits for serum lipids. Green tea and calcium have also been shown to be favorable. Sunflower seeds are rich in phytosterols which control dietary cholesterol absorption, thereby reducing circulating cholesterol levels. An LDL cholesterol of 163 despite a careful diet raises a concern. I would consider further investigation for cardiovascular risk factor modification.

No : Probably not the sunflower seed but a familial mix hyperlipidemia -- you may need to take meds to lower ldl.
