Fever aches malaise: The first signs of rabies in a person is flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, and malaise (feeling general discomfort). Unless a person knows he was exposed to rabies, he probably would not suspect his flu-like symptoms were from rabies. Since his symptoms have begun, his rabies infection is presumed to be fatal, but he should still try to get medical care.

Rabies symptoms: For rabies to occur, there usually has to be a recognizable exposure - such as a dog, cat or other mammal bite. Sometimes bats are involved, but that may not always include a bite. Since rabies is a viral infection - the first symptoms are 'non-specific' like headache, fever or malaise (feel wiped out). Further in the course, more characteristic symptoms develop like hydrophobia. See an MD.
