A member asked:

What causes abcess in groin and underarm twice a year i get painful abcesses and all my dr. will do is prescribe antibiotics?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bacterial infection: Abcesses in these areas are caused by bacterial infections, so you do need the antibiotics. However, there are ways to decrease how much of the bacteria you carry on your body. Talk to doc about bactroban (mupirocin) in your nose to decrease how much you carry there. Also dilute bleach baths really help decrease amount on your skin - 1/4 cup in a tubful of water. Finally, in those areas, never reuse your razor.
