Maybe: Most likely this is eustachian tube dysfunction (etd). Etd is related to allergy and sinus problems. If the problem is mild and intermittent, i would not worry about it. If it seems severe or is very bothersome, you can try some otc allergy medications (according to the label) and go see your ent. Best wishes!

Eustachian tube: Crackling sounds are often an indication of fluid behind the eardrum. This is usually a result of eustachian tube blockage or dysfunction. Try clearing your ears by closing your mouth, clamping your nostrils with your thumb & index finger, & gently blowing. This should get your ears to "pop". If that doesn't work see your physician or an otolaryngologist.
