CDC website: You can visit the CDC website (www.Cdc.Gov) for health information on each country/region of the world, including what foods to avoid, how to handle foods, and what infections to look out for. Generally, if in a third-world country, drink filtered or boiled water, don't eat fresh fruits/vegetables, be careful about dairy (pasteurized only), and cook all foods, especially meats & fish.

Be smart: The old adage is "boil it, peel it, cook it, or forget it", but data shows that no matter how "careful" we are, we are still subject to "travelers diarrhea". Perhaps it is a poorly washed plate, or server's hands, or another source of contamination. Eat food served piping hot, fruits/veg you can peel, and travel with standby antibiotic / antimotility rx just in case. Travel is enjoying local food!
