Common: Many of the medications used to treat adhd actually list "tics" as one of the side effects. Tics could also be another symptom of what is causing the adhd symptoms. Chronic strep, called pandas, can cause both adhd symptoms and tics. It is important for a doctor to be thorough and look for any and all underlying causes.

Incidence of tics in: Children with adhd is 6-11% prior to meds. Medications can induce tics, but group studies show no increase in kids with adhd on meds. The old warning about stimulants still exists because pharmaceutical companies feel it's not cost-effective to re-do the studies. Peer-reviewed studies show that when children with adhd & tics are given stimulants , 1/3 get better, 1/3 get worse & 1/3 stay the same.
