After detox: Naltrexone will accelerate withdrawal so better to detox first then go on naltrexone.

Naltrexone: Can be very useful AFTER a patient has detoxed from codeine. It will precipitate withdrawal, and cannot be used while the patient is still intoxicated with codeine. Else up to 24 hours of misery will ensue! But post-detox, naltrexone can be given as a pill daily, or more effectively as an every 28 day injection, to help with cravings and even post-acute withdrawal symptoms. Recommend!
