Sort of: Hypnosis works as well as cognitive behavioral therapy and neurolinguistic programing to help with alcoholism. None of these techniques will help if the patient isn't willing to change their life.

Can help, not magic: Hypnosis can be helpful. But therapist cannot wave wand and command you to stop. Change will require commitment and effort from the patient and ongoing therapy and support. Hypnosis is just one additional technique.

Hynotism and alcohol: Hypnotism may be helpful, but not often or even in most cases. Alcoholics anonymous meetings can be very beneficial. If one is really serious about stopping alcohol, one should attend 90 meetings in 90 days. In my practice, i encourage patients with alcohol problems to take a medication called antabuse, (disulfiram) which makes a person real sick if they drink so they don't drink as they know they'll get sick.
