A member asked:

How can alcoholism effect a person's personality?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Of course it can: People with any kind of drug addiction develop many changes in their personalities and behaviors over time. In some it is rapid and dramatic, and in others very slow and subtle, and may only be noticed by people very close to them. Anxiety and depression usually develop, or may have been the triggers for the drinking. Poor hygiene, work habits, isolating oneself are all common with alcoholism.
