A member asked:

Is alcoholism a weakness or an illness ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Acquired illness: Seems to be some hereditary susceptibility, brought out by emotional stressors, or situational habituation, and, in the end, it is difficult to break the patterns and stabilize. However, groups like alcoholics anonymous have great success, and even medications can assist. Do not ascribe to the anti-social weakness theory, as that is anachronistic.
