Performing a: Removal of a portion of the septum to allow the nasal septum to straighten.

Reshape the septum: "plasty" means to change, as in the shape. Septoplasty is a surgery where the nasal septum is reshaped to improve the nasal airway anatomy.

Nasal septum surgery: Septoplasty comes from the latin word "saeptum" meaning fence or divider combined with the greek word "plastos" meaning molded or formed. The nasal septum is the cartilage and bone divider between the right and left sides of the nose. Surgery that reshapes or corrects problems with the nasal septum is called septoplasty. This surgery is often combined with other surgical procedures in the nose.
