Sleep, anxiety Rx: This is a large group of drugs commonly used for sedation/sleep, anxiety relief, & muscle relaxation. Valium, ativan, Klonopin (diazepam, lorazepam, clonazepam) are all benzodiazepines, and xanax (alprazolam) is a related drug. The different drugs of this class differ in potency, speed of onset, & duration of action. They should be taken on schedule & with medical supervision.

Blood level: Testing blood levels of benzodiazepines is not a routine or common clinical test. It is done by simply taking a blood sample and testing it in the lab. It is most commonly done in research studies. An example of clinical use would be when there is a discrepancy between the prescribed dosage and the effect suggesting overuse.
