CTS or joint pain: Pain in the base of the thumb closer to the palmer side can be related cts, tendinitis (trigger finger) or basal joint pain. Cts can be diagnosed with a nerve conduction study. Tendonitis of the thumb can cause sharp pains. In addition, ligament laxity of the thumb joint can cause a similar pain (common in young women).
