Depends: Depends on the medication, and on the person taking the medication. Some medication "work" within 45 min. Other medications can take up to a few weeks to "work.".

Varies: Effectiveness (onset to action) can be 15-20 minutes in short acting stimulants (methylphenidate, amphetamine, dexedrine), 1-1/2 hrs in long acting stimulants (daytrana, vyvanse), days to weeks in Alpha 2 adrenergic drugs (intuniv, clonidine), and weeks to months with atypical antidepressants (desipramine, atomoxetine).
