Paracentesis: Paracentesis is a procedure whereby a needle is placed into the abdominal cavity to remove fluid. This can be done to diagnose a condition, or relieve discomfort from the abdomen being distended. However, it is important to find out the underlying cause of the accumulated fluid and treat it primarily if possible because the fluid will like reaccumulate if the condition persists.
