Blood : Blood which is coughed up can come from a variety of parts of the body: i.e., lungs, sinuses, nose, etc. It can also be vomited or spit up from stomach or esophagus. Do not know how heavy a smoker and drinker you have been. If this has happened more than a couple of time (in the context of a cold) then recommend that you be medically evaluated. In the meantime, hydrate well with water.

YES drugs: Both tobacco and alcohol are drugs. Coughing up blood is always a serious symptom, and deserves urgent medical attention. It can be something relatively benign - like infection or bronchial inflammation, but can also be cancer or something else that is serious. See your doctor, who may want to do further testing (chest x-rays), examine the sputum in the laboratory, and/or refer you to specialist.
