Vertebroplasty : Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty are procedures that treat vertebral compression fractures with injecting liquid plastic. Kyphoplasty has an additional step of creating a space prior to injection. Occasionally you can get a little reduction of the fracture with kyphoplasty. It is controversial which one is better. Sometimes certain fractures lend themselves better to one or the other procedure. Both procedures usually provide quick pain relief. Please see my health guide on vertebral compression fractures. Good luck!

Equivalent: Both procedure have the same efficacy. Some believe you can get some vertebral body height restoration with kyphoplasty. I have not seen this. The needs to perform kyphoplasty are larger than for vertebroplasty.

Kyphoplasty : Both are good options. There is good literature to support these options. For me, kyphoplasty is a safe and effective treatment for osteoporotic compression fractures. Check out kyphon.Com.
