How can vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty help treat spinal fractures?

For compression fx: These are like procedures done for osteoporotic compression fractures that may not be able to be treated non operatively, usually about 10% go to surgery. A vertebraplasty is an injection of "bone cement" into the vertebra while a kyphoplasty is the initial insertion of a baloon-like device to restore height of the compressed fracture and then a fill with "cement"restoring spinal alignment

Stabilizes fracture: Kyphoplasty is an excellent treatment for patients with osteoporotic compression fractures that are failing conservative care or are in debilitating pain. It relieves the pain by stabilizing the fracture. Check out kyphon.Com.
