How : How long ago was the wisdom tooth extracted? Was it a maxillary wisdom tooth? If there is a spicule of bone left, you may be getting a foreign body response with severe pressure causing the pain. Go back to the dentist who extracted the tooth to be evaluated and take your pain mess in the interim to alleviate your discomfort.

A : A visit to the oral surgeon would be best. Sometimes if things get left behind (bone, root tip, etc) they pose no problem (as evidenced from pts coming in and our x-rays reveal something that happened 30 years ago). However, if this was recent, it is best to go back and fix it. The solution can be a fairly complicated surgery, so it is best handled by an oral surgeon.
