A member asked:

Where did scabies come from? where did scabies originally come from? has their host always been primarily humans or can they live in the wild?

Hard to know: Scabies infestation has plagued mankind for thousands of years. We have skin mites normally on our bodies which we are not aware of, the "dust mite" until we get allergies. There are mites that live on other animals eg. Scabetic mange of dogs. Normally these do not live on people. Mites must have a living animal as their host as their eggs dry out after awhile and are no longer infectious.
