From : From your description, it sounds like it could be an "exostosis", a bony outgrowth. You should see an oral surgeon to determine if that is what it is. A differential diagnosis cannot be given over the internet, sight onseen.

A : A certain percentage of the population develop exophytic (outgrowths) of dense normal bone know as tori or exostosis (depending upon their location). These are benign growths that are of concern only if it interferes with speech, eating, placement of a denture or you continually traumatize the area during function. Typically they are only removed if they cause a problem. The surgery is simple and recovery quick. If the area is not causing you a problem, i recommend that you have your dentist look at the site at your next regularly scheduled appointment. If needed your dentist can refer you to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for further evaluation and treatment as indicated.
