This : This is an excellent question. The good thing is that you still have sensitivity to hot/cold on that tooth. That means that the nerve is still alive. The tooth has been traumatized, however, and that may not be good in the long run. The trauma sometimes pushes the tooth into the socket and crushes the nerves and blood vessels at the tip of the root. At this point, it is unknown how and if the nerve will heal. I suggest you do not traumatize it more.. Do not keep putting cold on it to test it. You also need to go to your dentist on monday to have a radiograph taken to see if anything is fractured, and to establish a baseline as to what the bone around the tooth looks like. Hopefully, all will be fine. But there is a chance you will need a root canal. Have your dentist monitor your situation.

I : I agree with the above post. When a tooth is subject to trauma, the nerve may be compressed or stretched. This can result in a sensation of numbness. Whether this is a temporary or permanent depends upon the degree of injury. Highly recommend that you see your general dentist so that he can test the tooth and obtain a "base line" for further testing down the line. The tooth can monitored to determine if the nerve is dying and will require a root canal. Having a root canal will allow you to maintain the tooth.

Leave : Leave it be! like any other part of your body that gets knocked, your tooth probably will return to normal on its own. There is really nothing you or your dentist can do. You might ask your orthodontist to make sure that the archwire is passive and is not trying to move the tooth.

Good thing: The good thing is that you are in braces, allowing the traumatic force to the affected tooth to be distributed to all the other teeth in the arch. Were it not for the braces you may have lost the tooth. Hopefully it will heal with time. Important, however, to see your Dentist now to establish a baseline. Important to se Orthodontist to make sure wire not bent and further traumatizing tooth.
