Depends on the area: There are a variety of reasons that a mother may not breast feed & if so, formulas offer a reasonable alternative. Yet they are a terrable choice if sanitary water supplies are not readily available, in that situation breast is the safest choice.Formulas cannot provide immune factors & some babies have intolerance to their protein or sugar source. Properly prepaired, it is a healthy product.

Usually not: Breastfeeding is the best way to feed a baby for many reasons. But there are times when a mother cannot breastfeed, and she should not feel guilty for using formula, as long as sanitary conditions are maintained. There are many alternative that meet various needs of the babies, and while they are not the first choice we recommend, they are not dangerous.

Some infants require specialized formula because they have rare conditions that impede absorption of nutrients and growth. Your pediatrician is the best source of information about infant feeding.

Usually not: Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first 6 months if at all possible. However, there are reasons why some babies may need to receive formula. Formula is not dangerous if it is mixed properly, according to the directions- which should be followed exactly- no diluting! and a sanitary water supply is used.
