High alt liver enzymes. no cause found. i've received 6 blood tests in the past 1 and 1/2 months. in each my alt liver enzymes were extremely high. i have tested negative for numerous illnesses included hepatitis a, b, and c, hiv 1 and 2, fatty liver dise

Ask : Ask to be tested for mononucleosis. This is a common cause of elevated liver enzymes, even after the symptoms of mono have resolved. Otherwise follow up with a liver specialist for further investigation/work up. Good luck.

Prevention : Consult a gastroenterologist. Don't take any medication that has acetaminophen, no alcohol, review all medications, including OTC and herbal remedies with your GI doc.
