A : A pediatric dentist receives 2 or more years of additional training specifically in the treatment of children. The offices are typically designed for dental treatment for children only. I find children do much better in the beginning at a pediatric dental office. I see you go to pediatrician with your child instead of a family physician. You should use the same reasoning when deciding to go to a pediatric dentist instead of a family dentist.

The : The difference is in the management! the pediatric dentist has special training in how to handle your child and give him/her a positive dental experience that will translate to having a good attitude about dentistry for life. As a prosthodontist i see many people who need major dental work since they had had a bad experience with a dentist as children and were afraid to go back for proper care. Give your child the best opportunity to have great dental care for life.

The : The difference is that a pedodontist focuses on complex pediatric dental problems as well as difficult behavioral management issues. For routine dental care with a child that has no problem with the dental experience a general dentist is just fine.

Training, experience: A pediatric dentist spends 2+ years in a concentrated residency just to learn how to guide kid's development. It's not just what they do, but even more so what they know. See pediatric dentist for the same reasons you see pediatric physician. They are the growth & development experts, with offices sized and geared for kids. They are also behavior management experts. 1st dental exam age 1.
